Gump and Co. Chapter 7 Free Essays
Part 7 All things considered, it wadnââ¬â¢t some time before the crap hit the fan. It appears that the bidness we had been doin with the Ayatolja was not actually seen in a decent light by the people on Capitol Hill, who felt that tradin arms for prisoners was not such a hot thought, particularly when the cash we got was gone over to help the gorillas in Nicaragua. A what them congressmen had at the top of the priority list was that the President, hissef, was behind the plan, a they was out to demonstrate it. We will compose a custom paper test on Gump and Co. Section 7 or on the other hand any comparable subject just for you Request Now Colonel North done so great testifyin before the Congress the first occasion when that they welcomed him back once more, a this time they had a lot of smooth Philadelphia legal advisors tryin to entangle him. In any case, the colonel, presently, he is really smooth hissef, a when he is usin his class a tact, he is truly difficult to entangle. ââ¬Å"Colonel,â⬠asts one of the legal advisors, ââ¬Å"what would you do if the President of the United States instructed you to perpetrate a crime?â⬠ââ¬Å"Well, sir,â⬠says the colonel, ââ¬Å"I am a marine. Furthermore, marines comply with the sets of their presidents. So regardless of whether the President instructed me to carry out a wrongdoing, what I would do is, I would salute astutely an energize the hill.â⬠ââ¬Å"Hill? What slope? Legislative center Hill?â⬠ââ¬Å"No, you ass â⬠any slope! Itââ¬â¢s a saying. We are the marines! We energize slopes for a living.â⬠ââ¬Å"Oh, better believe it, at that point why they call you ââ¬Ëjarheadsââ¬â¢?â⬠ââ¬Å"I murder you, you sombitch â⬠I rip your head off, a spit down your neck!â⬠ââ¬Å"Please, Colonel, donââ¬â¢t let us be foul. Viciousness will accomplish nothing for you. Presently, Colonel, what you are tellin me is this was not the Presidentââ¬â¢s idea?â⬠ââ¬Å"Thatââ¬â¢s what I am tellin you, you asshole.â⬠ââ¬Å"So whose thought was it at that point? Was it yours?â⬠ââ¬Å"Of course not, you jerk.â⬠(The colonelââ¬â¢s consideration a discretion is presently gettin into full swing.) ââ¬Å"Then whose was it?â⬠ââ¬Å"Well, it was a great deal of peopleââ¬â¢s. It simply kind of evolved.â⬠ââ¬Å"Evolved? Be that as it may, there must of been a ââ¬ËPrime Mover,ââ¬â¢ Colonel. Things of this extent simply don't just ââ¬Ëevolve.ââ¬â¢ ââ¬Å" ââ¬Å"Well, sir, in truth there likely was an individual who thoroughly considered it the most thoroughly.â⬠ââ¬Å"So this individual, he would be the ââ¬ËPrime Moverââ¬â¢ of all these illicit plans, is that correct?â⬠ââ¬Å"I assume you could state that.â⬠ââ¬Å"And this individual, was it Admiral Poindexter, the security counsel to the President of the United States?â⬠ââ¬Å"That pipe-smokin butthole? Obviously not. He ainââ¬â¢t got the sense to spill piss out of a boot, not to mention be a Prime Mover.â⬠ââ¬Å"Then, would you be able to let us know, sir, who was it?â⬠ââ¬Å"Why, yessir, I can. It was Private Forrest Gump.â⬠ââ¬Å"Who?â⬠ââ¬Å"Gump, sir, PFC Forrest Gump, who has been an exceptional collaborator to the President for secret exercises. It was all his idea.â⬠At this, all the legal advisors a representatives got into a group a started to murmur a wave they hands a gesture they heads. So thatââ¬â¢s how I got hauled into the wreckage. Before I knowed it, two goons in trenchcoats come up to my carton in Lafayette Park in the night a beginning bangin on the top. At the point when I slithered out to perceive what was goin on, one of em pushed a paper in my grasp, say I got the chance to show up in the mornin before the Special Senate Committee to Investigate the Iran-Contra Scandal. ââ¬Å"An, I propose you get that uniform squeezed before you get there,â⬠one of the goons says, ââ¬Å"because your large ass is in a stack of trouble.â⬠Indeed, I didnââ¬â¢t realize what to do straightaway. It was past the point where it is possible to wake up Colonel North, who I figgered would have everything thoroughly considered with his propriety a discretion, so I meandered aroun the city for some time an at last ended up at the Lincoln Memorial. The lights was shinin down on the large ole feller, all done up in his marble sculpture a lookin kinda tragic, an a fog was blowin in off the Potomac River, an it had started to sprinkle a little downpour. I was feelin quite upset for mysef, when lo a behole, out of the fog I seen Jenny kind of walkin toward me! Directly off the bat, she says, ââ¬Å"Well, seems as though you have done it once more, Forrest.â⬠ââ¬Å"I reckon,â⬠I says. ââ¬Å"Didnââ¬â¢t you get in a tough situation the last time you went into the army?â⬠ââ¬Å"Yup.â⬠ââ¬Å"So what's going on here? You think you needed to do this for little Forrest?â⬠ââ¬Å"Yup.â⬠She brushed her hair back a hurled her head, much the same as she used to do, an I just remained there, twistin my hands. ââ¬Å"Feelin kinda upset for yourself, huh?â⬠ââ¬Å"Uh huh.â⬠ââ¬Å"Donââ¬â¢t need to go up there to the Congress and come clean, do you?â⬠ââ¬Å"Nope.â⬠ââ¬Å"Well, you better, cause this is a genuine bidness, sellin arms for prisoners â⬠At least those bozos think so.â⬠ââ¬Å"So Iââ¬â¢m tole.â⬠ââ¬Å"So what you going to do?â⬠ââ¬Å"I dunno.â⬠ââ¬Å"My counsel is, Iââ¬â¢d told the truth with the entire thing. Also, donââ¬â¢t be coverin up for anyone. Okay?â⬠ââ¬Å"Yeah, I guess,â⬠I stated, a then another enormous ole haze of white fog come waftin in from the stream, a Jenny, she simply kind of disappeared into it, a for a second I needed so terrible to go runnin after her, possibly to get her by one way or another, a bring her back â⬠however even I am not all that moronic as that. So I simply turned aroun a began back for my case. In any case, I am left all alone once more. An as it turned out, it was the last time I didn't take Jennyââ¬â¢s counsel about tellin reality. ââ¬Å"Now, let us know, Private Gump, exactly when was it you originally got the plan to trade arms for hostages?â⬠I be settin at a major ole table facin all the congresspersons a legal advisors an other muckity-sludges in the congressional hearin room, a the TV cameras be rollin a lights shinin in my face. Somewhat youthful lookin, light haired legal counselor fellow be astin the inquiries. ââ¬Å"Who says I did?â⬠I ast. ââ¬Å"I am posing the inquiries here, Private Gump. You simply answer em.â⬠ââ¬Å"Well, I donââ¬â¢t know how I can answer that,â⬠I says. ââ¬Å"I mean, you donââ¬â¢t even ast me whether I did â⬠You just ast me whenâ⬠¦ ?â⬠ââ¬Å"Thatââ¬â¢s right, Private Gump, when was it, then?â⬠I investigated at Colonel North, uniform all brimming with awards, a he be glarin at me a gradually noddin his head, similar to I am sposed to answer somethin. ââ¬Å"Well, it was the point at which I initially met the President, I reckon.â⬠ââ¬Å"Yes, and did you not tell the President that you had imagined a plan to trade arms for hostages?â⬠ââ¬Å"No, sir.â⬠ââ¬Å"What did you tell the President then?â⬠ââ¬Å"I tole him the last time I met a president, he needed to watch To Tell the Truth, on the TV.â⬠ââ¬Å"Issat so! A what did the President say?â⬠ââ¬Å"He says he would prefer to watch Letââ¬â¢s Make a Deal.â⬠ââ¬Å"Private Gump! I advise you that you are sworn to tell the truth here!â⬠ââ¬Å"Well, really, he was watchin Concentration, yet he said it confounds him.â⬠ââ¬Å"Private Gump! You are avoiding my inquiry â⬠and you are sworn to tell the truth. It is safe to say that you are tryin to make the United States Senate look ludicrous? We can hold you in contempt!â⬠ââ¬Å"I figure you as of now do,â⬠I says. ââ¬Å"Sombitch! You are concealing for every one of them â⬠the President, Colonel North, here, Poindexter, and I donââ¬â¢t know who-all else! We are going to get to the base of this on the off chance that it takes all year!â⬠ââ¬Å"Yessir.â⬠ââ¬Å"So, presently, Gump, Colonel North has revealed to us you considered the entire accursed arrangement to trade arms for prisoners to the Ayatolja and afterward redirect the cash to the Contras in Central America. Isnââ¬â¢t that so?â⬠ââ¬Å"I donââ¬â¢t know nothin about any Contras â⬠I thought the cash was goin to some gorillas.â⬠ââ¬Å"Ah â⬠an affirmation! So you knew about this loathsome scheme!â⬠ââ¬Å"I comprehended the gorillas need the cash, yessir. Thatââ¬â¢s what I was tole.â⬠ââ¬Å"Ha! I think you are lying, Private Gump. I recommend that it was you who concocted the whole activity â⬠and with the Presidentââ¬â¢s complicity! Are you attempting to play dumb?â⬠ââ¬Å"It ainââ¬â¢t precisely playin, sir.â⬠ââ¬Å"Mr. Chairman!â⬠the legal advisor says. ââ¬Å"It is clear that Private Gump, here, the ââ¬Ëspecial right hand for undercover tasks to the President of the United States,ââ¬â¢ is a fake and a faker, and that he is purposely tryin to make the United States Congress look like simpletons! He should be held in contempt!â⬠The director, he kind of drawed hissef up a look down at me like I was a bug. ââ¬Å"Yes, it appears that way. Uh, Private Gump, do you comprehend the punishment for makin the United States Congress look like fools?â⬠ââ¬Å"No, sir.â⬠ââ¬Å"Well, we can thow your rear end in prison â⬠not to put too fine a point on it.â⬠ââ¬Å"Oh, yeah,â⬠I says, tryin to impersonate Colonel Northââ¬â¢s propriety a discretion methodology, ââ¬Å"start thowin then.â⬠So here I am once more, thowed in prison. Feature in The Washington Post following day says: Dolt Detained in Contempt of Congress Case An Alabama man, who sources near the Post recognized as a ââ¬Å"certified idiot,â⬠has been accused of hatred of Congress in the Iran-Contra outrage, which this paper has secured through and through. #tbt MIT Cribs
#tbt MIT Cribs In a recent concentrated effort to create a professional Tumblr for myself, I found the old blog that I submitted as part of my blogger application way-back-when. Turns out that getting accepted as an admissions blogger as a sophomore has its perks. These freshman-year thoughts just sat unread in a tiny corner of the internet, so I can dust off the MIT-related musings (as opposed to the completely random posts or deep and sometimes angsty thoughts about life/the universe/everything posts) and reuse them in a snazzy little #tbt series. Its always strange to look back upon your past self, what you thought of things, and how little you knew of what was to come. Like in this post I was both excited and terrified to start fresh in a new dorm room, decked out with a couple personal touches from home (hence the cheesy title): MIT Cribs (September 2, 2012) My deepest apologies for the hiatus; now that Iâm not at home (where an abundance of free time was a given) Iâve been spending less time on the computer and more actually doing things (âthingsâ being a very broad term, itâs not like I became extremely extroverted over the course of a week). But now that the hectic times of Orientation have subsided, Iâll introduce the interwebz to my final resting place⦠in other words, my dorm room. Water bottles! The red one was given out by my high school and has an awesome phoenix design on it, while the white one has the Aperture Laboratories logo and a little spiel about dihydrogen monoxide. Portal and chem nerdiness ftw. Freshman 15, here I come? My dad left me with comfort food, namely Ring Dings or a different brand of Hostess Ding Dongs. Now itâs an ongoing battle between my resolve and my stomach. Art supplies⦠or some of them. I couldnât bring my colored pencils or paints, but all my fine point illustration pens, brush pens, and gel pens made the journey in case Iâm feeling creative. Pokemon headphones, which I painted. Awesome arrow magnets with profanity. Because Iâd prefer not to swear online but am endlessly amused by what these say. (My favorite is, by far, âDonât F*** This Upâ). New planner! Because Iâm all grown up and in college now, I selected a fancy Moleskine planner⦠featuring Charlie Brown and the Peanuts comic strip. Anyway, I love it and the cover reads (fittingly) âThis year things are gonna be different!â A book of easy crosswords so I can stick to my resolution, and actually finish the puzzles so I donât feel completely mentally inadequate. My Seattle Seahawks pillow. Even though Iâm on the East Coast and the closest NFL team is the New England Patriots, my family has raised me to be a die-hard Seahawks fan and Iâm not gonna stop supporting them. Beagles are the most adorable, droopy, (translate: slobbering, conniving but still lovable) little dogs there are and I miss Taffy (my beagle) a bunch. I get this type of calendar every year as a Christmas present. Girlfriend Application advertisement for one of my friends. He jokingly mentioned that his goal for the summer between Junior and Senior year was to nab himself a girlfriend, so we (myself and two other friends), took it upon ourselves to give him a hand. It was quite a success, he got numerous applicants (even a teacher, though most of the submitted forms were from men) and was also thoroughly embarrassed. Nametag? While volunteering at the Seattle Childrenâs Hospital with my schoolâs National Art Honor Society, the front desk scanned my ID and printed out this nametag with an unflattering picture of myself and the moniker âDob Ileycass ka.â Wtf is a âHello, my name is History Nerdâ button doing in my possession? Even though Iâve blatantly (and perhaps a bit narrow-mindedly) proclaimed my hatred of history class and memorizing people, dates, and events⦠this button is from National History Day, where Iâve had some of my greatest successes in academic competition and had the privilege of researching moments in time that actually interest me in the company of great friends. I had to choose some of my very favorite books and DVDs to bring along, because I couldnât very well pack my entire shelf. I would passionately recommend any of these titles to anyone, just ask my friends (who have heard me rave endlessly about any number of these.) Also, my copy of TFiOS is signed and hanklerfishâd, be jelly ;) Troy and Abed in the Mooooooooorning. âNuff said. Blue canary in the outlet by the light switch who watches over you, make a little birdhouse in your soul. The physical manifestation of the focus of the They Might Be Giants song Birdhouse in your Soul. Theyâre awesome. A blank deck of playing cards which I intended for friends to draw on so I have a completely unique deck. So far I have a grand total of⦠one. Just a few more to go, right? And lastly, this is the view out my window, a lovely vista of the Charles River. Plus I can see the soccer fields from here, so maybe Iâll spectate during a couple games. I think Iâd rather have several closer friends in my dorm than a million-dollar view, but I guess I canât be heartbroken over this (unless I really want to be a jerk). If anyone wants to hear a story behind any of the other things on my bulletin board (all of them do have stories of some sort), shelves, desk (which is pretty much empty right now, but will be gaining more clutter shortly), or room in general (like a picture of the other half⦠right now thereâs only one poster, another calendar, and some cabinets), feel free to ask and Iâd be more than happy to share! Despite how cringe-worthy some bits of the post are (what were you thinking, freshman-Ceri, using be jelly unironically!?), it brings back memories of what I was feeling at the time. I was excited for MIT, thats for sure. But I also had no idea what I was doing I remember going through the whirlwind of FYRE to switch from New House, where I was temped for all of 3 days, into MacGregor, where I arrived just in time for in-house rush and knew basically nothing about the dorm. I wasnt placed into my top choices for dorm or entry and I didnt really have friends, since it seemed like everyone else already knew each other from FPOPs (pre-orientation programs which have been blogged about plenty of times) and I dont do so well on the meeting-new-people front. This particular blog resulted from channeling all this nervous energy into organizing my stuff and writing, strategies I still use today to try and quell anxiety. I think trying to make my room look more like home, however barren those pictures are compared to my current room, helped me feel a little more at home. One of my favorite bits is the fact that I highlighted my Seahawks pillow that pillowcase has seen so many tears of happiness and sorrow (football-related and otherwise) and still acts as a reminder that Seattle will always be home to me. Sorry, Boston. But enough with the reflections. The best way I can pay tribute to this throwback post is to recreate it with my current room! Itll be a little harder to choose individual stories to tell because Ive accumulated one or two (or twenty) more things But, without further ado: MIT Cribs II (March 5, 2015) After I moved into my room in B-Entry, Ive never really had a reason to move any of my stuff. Ive stayed on campus for two consecutive summers and MacGregor has stayed open, so thats the perfect recipe for laziness and (to some degree) hoarding. As a result, my once-barren room has accumulated a bunch of cooking supplies, wall decorations, books, and memorabilia. I guess this particular angle makes my room look a little messy, but I like covering all surfaces of my room with happy memories. I think thats what makes it feel a little more like home. Juice is a staple of my diet now, and mango lemonade (which is whats in this bottle) is definitely my favorite. Juice was kind of a staple at home, too, but now I think I might get most of my daily hydration through sugar water rather than normal water. Since I dont drink coffee or soda, my average beverage healthiness might be close to that of a normal college student? Bigger planner than the one from freshman year, decorated with a bunch of stickers I had lying around! All my assignments and to-do checklists throughout the week were getting illegible on smaller pages. Various wall decorations, including the 101 Things to Do Before You Graduate list (like this one, but for the 2016s), a cardboard rhinoceros head (my friend has a matching buffalo), a picture of my pup, an art print of all the scenes from The Way Way Back (one of my favorite movies) compressed down and squished side-by-side, and some motivational notes given to me by friends and family. An alarm clock, because I have somehow gotten more nocturnal and less willing to wake up than I was in high school. Seriously, how did I ever wake up at around 6am every day to get to school by 7ish. This clock sounds like a fire alarm, which causes me to wake up in a panic but is, unsurprisingly, quite effective. My Seahawks pillow is obscured in this picture but I have plenty of 12th Man flags hanging around my room. I have one in my window which conveniently corresponds to the fact that I live on the 12th floor of MacGregor. Ive acquired a lot of art books since coming here. These two in particular are from Tangled and Frozen, but I love looking at the art styles of everything from cartoons to comics to video games. Even though I cant really take storyboarding or animation classes here, art books like these fuel my desire to become a storyboard artist or work on animated movies. My dad sent me this Washington sticker in a recent care package. I miss the West Coast. The button from that one time my friend and I won the Wicked lottery and got cheap tickets to see it in Boston. Since then, Ive seen lots of theater in Boston and New York (mostly thanks to student rush) and its been wonderful. One of Lydias Valentines that she sent out to a bunch of friends. It was so sweet and surprising to find one in my mailbox, and definitely made my day. Shes the best Princess of the Internet ? These are two message-in-a-bottle type notes that two of my best friends gave me (one from high school and one from MIT). They both came with a similar instruction something along the lines of read me when you really need it, and I havent gotten to that point yet. I dont know when Ill need them, or if even if Ill ever need them. But these are some of the most thoughtful gifts Ive ever recieved. Partially obscured behind Baby Luigi, this is a vectorized picture of two of my best friends from high school and me when we visited the Crayola factory. I never colored it in with crayons, but its still a really great memory from freshman year Thanksgiving. Badges from the Penny Arcade Expo (aka. PAX East) from the past couple years. Its a huge video game conference where you can revel in nerdiness and play a bunch of games, and this year it starts tomorrow! I still have the Troy and Abed in the Morning mug, and acquired 13 more mugs through random gifts (MedLinks, the Edward Gorey mug, etc.) or impulse buys (the TARDIS, Elsa and Anna concept art mugs, etc.) Even though I never have a need for more than 1 or 2 dirty mugs at any one time, my friends and I can now mass-produce mug cakes which I guess is a plus. Before college, I never really liked tea I just thought of it as glorified flavored water. But now I have several kinds of peppermint and floral loose-leaf tea to help calm me down or keep me going during a long night of work. At the end of last year, I saw Big Hero 6, loved it, and learned that they had limited edition Baymax cups at Disney theme parks. I mentioned this random tidbit in the middle of a phone call home, and my dad remembered it and surprised me at Christmas with one that he bought on eBay. My family is pretty excellent at giving surprising and meaningful gifts. Again with the PAX, but during freshman year I met one of the artists/designers who worked on Castle Crashers, an arcade-style action adventure game that has a wonderful visual style. I bought the blue knight figurine from the booth and he signed it on the side of the display case with a little doodle. I, of course, blubbered and thanked him for his work and told him I admired his art (or something along those lines I dont exactly remember the interaction very well.) Playbills from some of the theater performances that Ive been to in New York. Specifically, these are from when I stage-doored If/Then and fangirled over Idina Menzel and Anthony Rapp and the rest of the stellar cast, and when I stage-doored Waiting for Godot and fangirled over Sir Ian McKellen and Sir Patrick Stewart. Such good theater and its so close by. Time turner necklace, because if I could have a superpower it would definitely be to manipulate time. A figurine of Vitruvius from the LEGO movie! Dr. Horrible goggles, which I recieved from a friend my freshman year of high school after we discovered Dr. Horribles Sing-Along Blog together. Which everyone should watch. And heres the current view from my window, facing down dorm row instead of the other way down Memorial Drive. Its significantly snowier right now than it was in September, so the Charles is pretty much just a blanket of snow and ice. Sometimes I just stare out the window for a while as the sun sets, since I have a really beautiful view of the lights punctuating the Boston skyline and cars lined up across the Harvard bridge. This is by no means a comprehensive view of everything in my room, but its cool to see how some things have changed so much since freshman year (even though sometimes it doesnt feel like Ive done all that much since coming here). Sherbert v. Verner Arguments, Impact, Sherbert Test
In Sherbert v. Verner (1963), the Supreme Court ruled that a state must have a compelling interest and demonstrate that a law is narrowly tailored in order to restrict an individuals right to free exercise under the First Amendment. The Courts analysis became known as the Sherbert Test. Fast Facts: Sherbert v. Verner (1963) Case Argued: April 24, 1963Decision Issued: June 17, 1963Petitioner: Adell Sherbert, a member of the Seventh-Day Adventist Church and a textile-mill operatorRespondent: Verner et al., Members of the South Carolina Employment Security Commission, et al.Key Question: Did the state of South Carolina violate Adell Sherbertââ¬â¢s First Amendment and 14th Amendment rights when it denied her unemployment benefits?Majority Decision: Justices Warren, Black, Douglas, Clark, Brennan, Stewart, GoldbergDissenting: Justices Harlan, WhiteRuling: The Supreme Court found that South Carolinaââ¬â¢s Unemployment Compensation Act was unconstitutional because it indirectly burdened Sherbertââ¬â¢s ability to exercise her religious freedoms. Facts of the Case Adell Sherbert was both a member of the Seventh-Day Adventist Church and a textile-mill operator. Her religion and workplace came into conflict when her employer asked her to work on Saturday, a religious day of rest. Sherbert refused and was fired. After having difficulty finding another job that did not require work on Saturdays, Sherbert applied for unemployment benefits through the South Carolina Unemployment Compensation Act. Eligibility for these benefits was based on two prongs: The person is able to work and available for work. The person has not rejected available and suitable work. The Employment Security Commission found that Sherbert did not qualify for the benefits because she had proved she was not ââ¬Å"availableâ⬠by rejecting jobs that required her to work on Saturdays. Sherbert appealed the decision on the basis that denying her benefits violated her freedoms to practice her religion. The case eventually made its way to the Supreme Court. Constitutional Issues Did the state violate Sherbertââ¬â¢s First Amendment and Fourteenth Amendment rights when it denied unemployment benefits? Arguments Attorneys on behalf of Sherbert argued that the unemployment law infringed upon her First Amendment right to freedom of exercise. Under South Carolinaââ¬â¢s Unemployment Compensation Act, Sherbert could not receive unemployment benefits if she refused to work on Saturdays, a religious day of rest. Denying benefits unreasonably burdened Sherbert, according to her attorneys. Attorneys on behalf of the State of South Carolina argued that the language of the Unemployment Compensation Act did not discriminate against Sherbert. The Act did not directly prevent Sherbert from receiving benefits because she was a Seventh Day Adventist. Instead, the Act barred Sherbert from receiving benefits because she was not available to work. The state had an interest in ensuring that those receiving unemployment benefits were open and willing to work when a job was made available to them. Majority Opinion Justice William Brennan delivered the majority opinion. In a 7-2 decision, the Court found that South Carolinaââ¬â¢s Unemployment Compensation Act was unconstitutional because it indirectly burdened Sherbertââ¬â¢s ability to exercise her religious freedoms. Justice Brennan wrote: ââ¬Å"The ruling forces her to choose between following the precepts of her religion and forfeiting benefits, on the one hand, and abandoning one of the precepts of her religion in order to accept work, on the other hand. Governmental imposition of such a choice puts the same kind of burden upon the free exercise of religion as would a fine imposed against appellant for her Saturday worship.â⬠Through this opinion, the Court created the Sherbert Test to determine whether government acts infringe upon religious freedoms. The Sherbert test has three prongs: The Court must decide whether the act burdens the individualââ¬â¢s religious freedoms. A burden can be anything from withholding benefits to imposing penalties for religious practice. The government may still ââ¬Å"burdenâ⬠an individualââ¬â¢s right to free exercise of religion if:The government can show a compelling interest to justify the intrusionThe government must also show that it cannot achieve this interest without burdening the individualââ¬â¢s freedoms. Any government intrusion on an individualââ¬â¢s first amendment freedoms must be narrowly tailored. Together, compelling interest and narrowly tailored are key requirements for strict scrutiny, a type of judicial analysis applied to cases where a law may be infringing on individual freedoms. Dissenting Opinion Justice Harlan and Justice White dissented, arguing that the state is required to act with neutrality when legislating. The South Carolina Unemployment Compensation Act was neutral in that it offered equal opportunity to access unemployment benefits. According to the Justices, it is within the stateââ¬â¢s interest to provide unemployment benefits to help people looking for work. It is also within the stateââ¬â¢s interest to restrict benefits from people if they refuse to take available jobs. In his dissenting opinion, Justice Harlan wrote that it would be unfair to allow Sherbert to access unemployment benefits when she is unavailable for work due to religious reasons if the state prevents others from accessing the same benefits for non-religious reasons. The state would show preferential treatment to people who practice certain religions. This violated the concept of neutrality that states should strive to achieve. Impact Sherbert v. Verner established the Sherbert Test as a judicial tool for analyzing state burdens on religious freedoms. In Employment Division v. Smith (1990), the Supreme Court limited the scope of the test. Under that decision, the Court ruled that the test could not be applied to laws that were generally applicable, but might incidentally hinder religious freedoms. Instead, the test should be used when a law discriminates against religions or is enforced in a discriminatory way. The Supreme Court still applies the Sherbert test in the latter. For example, the Supreme Court used the Sherbert test to analyze policies in the case Burwell v. Hobby Lobby (2014). Sources Sherbert v. Verner, 374 U.S. 398 (1963).Employment Div. v. In 2002, a report released by the U.S secret Service concluded that bullying played a significant role in school shootings (Ferrel-Smith, 2008). Bullying in schools in America is extremely common. Understanding Of World Literature Samples â⬠MyAssignmenthelp.com
Question: Discuss about the Understanding Of World Literature. Answer: World literature in its most simple sense is the sum total of all kinds of literature that prevails in the world in various cultures and countries. The exchange of literary knowledge between the countries and the appreciation of the same is the essence of world literature. However to define the world literature in a particular way of expression is almost impossible as the characteristic features are extremely varied and the extent of the literary works are limitless. Important is Goethes remark National literature is now a rather unmeaning term; the epoch of world literature is at hand, and everyone must strive to hasten its approach in understanding the purview of the literature in an international arena and how globalization in literature is paving way for further exchange of literary culture. Marx on the other hand in 1847 stated National one-sidedness and narrow-mindedness become more and more impossible, and from the numerous national and local literatures there arises a world literature which may in a way be termed as the Marxists definition of world literature (Prawer, 2014). Fritz Stritch has endeavored in explaining world literature as traffic in ideas between peoples, a literary market to which the nations bring their intellectual treasures for exchange. All these potential descriptions have however not served the purpose of producing an all pervasive and comprehensive definition of world literature. Tartuffe is a play composed by Moliere in 1664. This can be successfully termed as a world literature because the term Tartuffe itself started to be used in the meaning hypocrite in English language (Molire, 2015). Antigone on the other hand was composed long ago in around 440 BC. This work cannot be truly be described as world literature as it mainly centers around the legends and myths of Thebes. However various themes included in the literature goes with todays various issues like civil disobedience, legal institutions, and family bonds. The Stranger by Albert Camus on the other hand perfectly represents the features of world literature, because the title character Meursault is described as "a citizen of France domiciled inNorth Africa, a man of theMediterranean, anhomme du midiyet one who hardly partakes of the traditional Mediterranean culture (Camus, 1993), what can be a better example of world literature which makes the reader go through so many cultures and ideas through one character. Leo Tolstoy completed the work Hadji Murat in his last days. This work eloquently depicts a classic east vs. west theme while depicting the struggle between Russia which was dominantly Christian and Chechnya which was dominantly Muslim. This work sincerely reflects the essence of the term world literature. The main difference between world literature and global literature lies in the fact that global literature is composed keeping in mind the world audience hence the themes are those to which the world readers can connect, on the other hand world literature was not composed keeping in mind the global nature of the readers, but the quality of the work and its themes made the world appreciate it. In conclusion it can be said that though there was and there are endeavors in defining the term world literature but it has not been possible yet. The extent of literature is so vast throughout the world that such possibilities are probably not to be materialized any time soon. Reference: Camus, A. (1993). The Stranger. 1942.Trans. When you write about coral reefs, you should have a clear understanding of what is a coral reef ecosystem, and what is a coral. We all saw corals on photos, videos or even live. But what exactly are corals? Are they plants or animals? Let's find out! Corals neither are plants, nor a quaint stone, but living marine polyps that have a unique limestone skeleton structure growing about 15 mm every year. Corals are the lower coelenterate multicellular creatures in the world's oceans. Imagine a solid lime cylinder, surrounded from the inside and outside by a soft tissue of cells. In its center is the "mouth" of the coral and then it turns into the abdominal cavity. The coral feeds on plankton, capturing small marine organisms with its tentacles around the mouth, which have mucus that paralyzes the prey. Corals in their structure are very different. Some corals have a solid skeleton (which is called madrepores), some donââ¬â¢t have it, and some have mixed type of skeleton, like tubular coral. There are both solitary and colonial corals, which together form a complete barrier, shore reefs or atolls. Old corals die, and new living corals grow on top of them.

Marketing Objectives How to Set Them in Six Steps - CoSchedule
Marketing Objectives How to Set Them in Six Steps Marketing objectives are the foundation of any good marketing strategy. Imagine youre leading a marketing team (even a sub-team within your department) and have no means of communicating the specific numbers all of their work is meant to influence. Your team would likely do things they think are for the best interest of the company (but everyone would feel siloed because everyone would be doing their own thing) wonder how their efforts are actually paying off in the long run (because they have no reason to measure how what they do is influencing actual results) look to you for guidance (because the success of your team lies on your ability to communicate why theyre working on something, and not how to do it) Marketing objectives help your team by giving measurable KPIs they can directly influence through their work, which, if influenced well, results in meeting goals. How To Set Up Your Marketing Objectives In 6 Steps Now that you know what marketing objectives are and have seen a few examples for yourself, you can begin the process of setting up your own. Hereââ¬â¢s how to do it in six steps: Step One: Remember Your Mission Statement. Step Two: Set Your Marketing Objectives. Step Three: Tie Your Marketing Goals Into Your Marketing Objectives. Step Four: Develop A Marketing Strategy. Step Five: Align Your Marketing Goals With Your Marketing Funnel. Step Six: Measure And Report Your Progress. Before we begin, letââ¬â¢s set the stage. This example will focus on a fictitious bookstore called ââ¬Å"Reading Nook Bookstore.â⬠Two different marketers are part of this story, Peter and Natalie. Peter is a new marketing strategist at Reading Nook Bookstore. Natalie is the marketing director and has been at Reading Nook Bookstore for five years. Letââ¬â¢s begin. So, how exactly do you set marketing objectives? Learn everything you need to know here. Step One: Remind Your Team Of Your Mission Statement Peter is about to begin work with Natalie on setting next yearââ¬â¢s marketing objectives. Peter is new to this process, so Natalie decided to walk him through how setting up marketing objectives works. The first step in this process is reviewing the mission statement of your organization. Natalie pulled up the Reading Nook Bookstore website and showed Peter the following mission statement: ââ¬Å"The goal of Reading Nook Bookstore is to inspire and nurture the love of reading across generations of families.â⬠As you begin to work on your marketing objectives, remember your mission statement. If you get stuck, refer back to your statement and ask yourself: ââ¬Å"If we complete this objective, how does it help fulfill our mission?â⬠Step Two: Set Your Marketing Objectives When youââ¬â¢re setting up your objectives, the first thing you need to focus on is answering this question: What is your overarching marketing objective? Your overarching objective should be the end goal that your marketing team wants to achieve by a certain time. This is the driving force behind every other objective and goal that you set. This also means that your objective should be broad enough to give you plenty of room to work out your entire marketing strategy. Now that Peter and Natalie have their overarching marketing objective, their next step is to set the rest of their marketing goals. Here are some goals they might set to achieve their objective: Increase the conversion rate of their audience by 25% in one year. Double the number of purchases by 18- to 35-year-olds by June 2021. Increase average in-store purchase value from $10 to $35 in one year. Each one of these goals has something important in common. They have a specific numerical data point that must be met by an end date. Step Three: Tie Your SMART Marketing Goals Into Your Marketing Objectives The next step in Peter and Natalieââ¬â¢s marketing objective process is to create their SMART marketing goals. Marketing goals differ a bit from marketing objectives. Marketing objectives are the overarching outcomes you want to achieve, which you set for your team. Marketing goals are the stepping stones you need to complete to reach your objective. Your goals should be the specific building blocks that help you reach your initial objectives. Each one should build off the other like this: So letââ¬â¢s take the marketing objectives that Natalie and Peter created earlier and set a series of marketing goals that revolve around each one. Their first objective was: Increase online conversion rate by 25% in one year. Some marketing goals that Natalie and Peter could set are: Increase the ranking of 10 landing pages to the top three spots on Google by optimizing them for specific keywords. Decrease abandoned shopping carts by 50%. The second objective Peter and Natalie need to set marketing goals for is: Double the size of our 18- to 35-year-old audience by June 2021. Examples of goals that Peter and Natalie could set might include: Creating an active presence on Instagram and Snapchat with each account having over 1,000 followers by the end of June 2018. Host a book club with topics aimed to entice target audience with 2,000 active members by March 2021. Their third objective that Natalie and Peter need to set goals for is: Increase average in-store purchase value from$10 to $35 in one year. Example goals for this post could be: Host book club Meetups in the store to increase in-store traffic by 30%. Market in the most trafficked areas of the store to increase new in-store membership signups by 25%. Each of the goals and its parent objective relates back to the overarching goal of increasing the revenue of Reading Nook Bookstore by three million dollars. Connect your #marketing objectives to your overall business objectives. Step Four: Set Up A Marketing Strategy The next step in your marketing objective process is to set up your marketing strategy. The strategy that you set up will help you reach your objective. The marketing strategy that Reading Nook Bookstore will execute involves: Creating a blog to help generate leads from helpful and relevant content. Promote that content with social media and email newsletters. Use social media ads, Google PPC, and retargeting ads to reach new customers. Step Five: Match Your Marketing Goals To Your Marketing Funnel The next step in your process is setting up a series of marketing goals that help guide potential customers to purchasing your product. A marketing funnel will usually look something like this: Awareness:à The awareness stage is letting your target audience know that you exist. This could be from reading your blog, seeing your social media ads, or stumbling across a PPC ad. Interest:à The interest stage involves getting your target audience to connect with your content. Here your potential customers would become more invested in your content by subscribing to your email list. Consideration:à This is the nurturing part of your funnel. It helps connect the solution your company offers to the problems your audience is experiencing. Your marketers would be sending a series of emails to help start nurturing them to learn more about your product. Intent:à This is the first part of the sales stage of your marketing funnel. Here is where all of your solutions will be laid out in front of your new potential customers. This is where your sales team will step in to talk to potential customers. Evaluation:à Your target audience will evaluate what options have been presented to them by your sales team. At this point, your customers may return to their teams to discuss the information they found. Purchase:à Your audience buys your product. Each one on the funnel stages will have marketing goals that need to be met to move customers through the funnel. Here are some potential example goals for your marketing funnel. Depending on your funnel, your goals may change. Awareness Goal Examples: Gain 2,500 organic views for every blog post. Reach 500 people for every Facebook post. Interest Goal Examples: Get 3,000 new email subscribers a week. Gain 750 new social fans per month. Consideration Goal Examples: Get 50% of new customers in nurturing email follow. Qualify 50 new leads from the email list per week. Intent Goal Examples: Have 25 new sales calls a week. Evaluation Goal Examples: Write five bottom of the funnel marketing posts a month. Set up ten demo calls a month with potential customers. Purchase Goal Examples: Convert 75% of sales calls to purchases. Achieve an average order value of $50 or higher. News in the United States Political System Essay
News in the United States Political System - Essay Example However, the qualities of reporting and journalism in the country certainly have dimensions along which they can improve, and some observers are even severely critical of the state of affairs with respect to the media. The nature of content and safeguards against bias are especially controversial aspects of the matter. There are 3 major groups of stakeholders with respect to news and the media: the people who report, their audiences, and the entities covered by these reports (Bennett, 2007, p. 6). Each of these categories is further affected by their circles of acquaintances and votaries, and the effects that media content have on their images and societal positions. However, the audience should have precedence in all matters related to the development of media, because their vital interests should not be compromised in any circumstances. This document essays a review of how information is collated, analyzed, and presented by US media to its audiences, the impacts on each of the major categories of stakeholders, and how some of the important perceived limitations can be addressed. It is largely based on a major text on the state of the US media, which is widely used, and which is current as well (Bennett, 2007, p. 6). Two significant factors dominate key US media processes: economics and technology. It is expensive to gather first hand information, and to disseminate it as well. Owners, advertisers, and theories of what audiences would like to see and hear, cast overbearing spells on the workings and decisions of reporters and most professional journalists. Economics rule news content (Hamilton, 2004, p. 7). The advantage of free enterprise becomes an entry barrier as far as the collection and dissemination of news is concerned. Editors have to function as executives, with eyes on lines of financial statements, rather than on the strengths they should have, and the accountabilities which they should hold most sacred. Interference and interventions by quarters which provide financial sustenance to the media is not blatant in any overt way, but the subtle compulsions are not to be denied. The most influential of such pressures on professional journalistic processes, relates to the role of advertisin g. The latter is directly related to sizes of audiences. Truth and relevance must be subservient to guessing as to what people would like to read and to hear. This leads to a high degree of subjectivity in the evaluation of the media and its utility, because the population which it serves is so diverse. Television has substantially displaced the print media as a source medium for news (Bennett, 2007, p. 23). Thus, technology is a determining factor in shaping views, and calls for an extension if not a shift of factual reporting skills from newspapers to electronic media forms. This aspect of media process does not end with television as the Internet grows in influence at unprecedented rates. This trend is set to accelerate much further as cellular telephones offer to keep people in touch at virtually all times. However, this does not mean that mainstream media is condemned to obsolescence, and the resurgence of radio is a reassuring example of how quality news management can retain the loyalties of audiences. The business sector of media is incredibly complex, and most lay people are not conscious of the logistics and management skills which are integral

A Review On Psychology Theology And Spirituality Theology Religion Essay
A Review On Psychology Theology And Spirituality Theology Religion Essay Psychology, Theology, and Spirituality in Christian Counseling written by Mark R. McMinn teaches Christian counselors the importance of Spirituality in the counseling office. Throughout the book McMinn provides deep insight on the integration of the three concepts; the author provides concrete cases that allow the reader to grasp the information by applying the scenarios to the text. To better equip Christian Counselors he uses cognitive therapy from a Christian perspective as foundation for his work. He stresses the importance of building an effective therapeutic relationship between the counselor and the client in order for therapy to be successful. McMinn uses a variety of religious interventions to establish psychological and spiritual health. Throughout the chapters he elaborates on the use of prayer, scripture, sin, confession, forgiveness, and redemption in the counseling practice. McMinn discusses the positive effects as well as negative side effects of the use of prayer. He states that the counselors level of spiritual maturity will provide an upper limit for the potential impact of prayer in counseling (McMinn, 1996, p.87). McMinn highlights the power of Scripture and outlines the specific effects it may have on the client. McMinn summarizes the chapter by noting Our knowledge of God, self and Scripture are all interrelated, but our capacity to understand any one of these elements will add to our ability to understand the others (McMinn, 1996, p.124). McMinns study of the nature of sin and its role in the counseling practice is also very thorough. As he notes, generally psychologists have been uninterested in sin, preferring to ignore it or to discuss the effects of the concept of sin (McMinn, 1996, p. 161). Such an attitude has negative consequences, as in most cases sin can be a reason of depression, feeling of guilt and other negative feelings. He proposes the Christian counselor to understand sin from a theological and spiritual perspective. As he states, such a change can add necessary depth to the work of a counselor and encourage his clients to grow spiritually. Describing the historical references of confession as a sacrament of penance, McMinn underlines the necessity to understand its role and importance in the work of a Christian Therapist. Confession requires humility, which requires us to look at ourselves honestly and recognize both our strengths and weaknesses. Confession closely deals with forgiveness, which is a very popular topic among counselors. The author attracts readers attention to the fact that Christian understanding of forgiveness may differ from the ways that non-Christian counselors understand forgiveness. Christian forgiveness is not a simple emotional relief; however, McMinn stated that our capacity to forgive one another depends on our capacity to understand both our need for forgiveness and Gods gracious gift of forgiveness (McMinn, 1996, p.235). McMinns final chapter on redemption sums up the pr evious topics prayer, scripture, sin, confession, and forgiveness. Redemption is a process of being freed from sin and being restored back unto God. As McMinn finalizes the book with this chapter he sums up redemption by saying the wonder of redemption is that we are brought back into a relationship with God (McMinn, 1996, p.265). Finally once we experience redemption, our old ways of thinking are brought as one with God. After reading this story I am reminded of a demonstration given by my former pastor. Leading up to this demonstration my uncle Jesse had been beaten unrecognizably by gang members in Charlotte, NC. My uncle, raised in the church, had a calling on his life from a very young age and refused to accept his calling. He had been running for years and through those years he was often referred to Jonah, but one night changed all of that for my uncle. I can still remember visiting him in the ICU at Carolina Hospital in Charlotte and afraid to look at the hideous swellings upon his face. His eyes were swollen to the size of golf balls and stitches had been applied to various parts of his face it was a horrible sight to see. After his release he was given shelter by my pastor and started attending the church. The demonstration given by my pastor showed the church what sin can do to a person. I remember hearing my pastor pray and my uncle confessing all his sins while standing at the altar. The pastor preached a heavy sermon that taught me how important the confessions of sins were in seeking forgiveness from God. I have learned that God is a God of second chances and he will grant us forgiveness if and when we are ready to confess with our mouths. The moral of the story my pastor pointed out was that God was a redeemer and therefore gave second chances to his sons and daughters. Reflection McMinn did an excellent job covering the aspects of integrating psychology, theology, and spirituality in Christian counseling. While the book offers insightful ways to look at different situations that may happen in the Christian counseling office there is one thing that bothered me most. If most types of prayer has not been researched how is the counselor supposed to define clear and ethical guidelines for the use of prayer in counseling? I believe that prayer forms an intimate relationship between God and the individual; therefore prayer should not be used in the therapy sessions especially if further research is needed. Prayer I do believe is an effective tool that can be used in therapy but should be used outside the counseling sessions gradually as the client feels comfort and the need for seeking Gods presence on his or her own. This is a good book and should be read by all Christian counselors. It is essential in helping to expand their knowledge on the basis of integrating p sychology, theology, and spirituality. The case studies are helpful in learning both positive and negative ways to approach similar situations met in the counseling sessions. McMinn did a great job elaborating on the different themes prayer, scripture, sin, confession, forgiveness, and redemption. The uses of the themes were successful in teaching the confused counselor how to integrate their spirituality into the therapy session. Overall the book is a positive guide for new and old counselors to use as basis of understanding how each of the themes can have a powerful impact on a clients progress. Actions This was an outstanding book and it taught me valuable instructions on multitasking as a counselor. McMinn stated that the most effective Christian counselors are able to process several ideas simultaneously (McMinn, 1996, p. 269). It is important for a counselor to be able to successfully integrate psychology, theology and spirituality in the counseling sessions to effectively treat the problems of their clients. I personally will take what I learned and continue to read and enhance my understanding of the different concepts so that I may learn to use them wisely. Reading this book enlightened me with so much information that I can easily share with a friend to enhance their knowledge of Christian counselors. I would first make it known to them that as a Christian counselor we are set apart from other psychologists in that we put God at the forefront of our lives and therapy sessions. Being a Christian psychologist comes with many challenges and we have to constantly refine our rela tionship with God and acknowledge him as the All knowing God because thats who we ultimately seek direction from. Learning how to integrate the use of prayer and scripture with Christian clients we have to recognize the negative side effects that can come of prayer or scriptural interventions. I will continue to keep God first in my life allowing him to speak to me, lead me, and guide me as an instrument to help others. I can only better myself after reading this book and take what I learned to become the multitasking counselor.

Andrew Jackson :: Biography Biographies Bio

How We Learn Essay
ââ¬ËWhat have I learned about learning, and what are the implications of this for my future practice?ââ¬â¢ In this assignment I will be identifying in a personal way, what I have learnt about learning from my own education and also drawing from my previous experiences. I will also be exploring ways in which I believe, for my future practice as a teacher, children will be able to achieve their full learning potential. ââ¬Å"Learning is a complex concept and activityâ⬠(Hewitt 2008) in which every individual does in enabling them to gain new skills or knowledge. Every individual learns in a different way, where as one technique may work well for one individual, it may not work for another. We should never stop learning in order to progress as an individual. In order for the skills and knowledge to remain stored individuals should keep using the skills in which they have acquired overtime. These skills should be applied to different things such as projects so that the skills are remained stored and fresh in the mind. As every individual has a certain learning style, to help us learn more effectively it is best to know and understand our learning style. Through identifying your learning style, you will be able to capitalise on your strengths and improve your self-advocacy skills. Learning a specific subject, knowledge, skill and so on, is down to many factors which play an important role in learning, these include: intelligence; aptitude; goals; interests; readiness & maturation; motivation; self-concept; attitudes & values; level of aspiration; learning style and socio cultural determinants ââ¬â to name a few. I believe that interests and goals are the catalyst to being a successful teacher. Childrenââ¬â¢s motivational levels in subjects need to be at a high level in order for the child to reach their full potential with their learning capabilities. ââ¬Å"Interest is one of the most important factors which mediates learning and which motivates to actâ⬠(Factors Affecting Learning), if a child is not fully engaged in a particular subject due to low levels of interest then their learning capabilities will not be fulfilled. Whilst working in a school setting in 2010, child A statedâ⬠¦Ã¢â¬ I canââ¬â¢t do maths ââ¬â it doesnââ¬â¢t interest meâ⬠when there is no interest from the child, as shown in the example, there can be no learning. For my future practice it is vital that every childââ¬â¢s interest is engaged in subjects in order for the child toà fulfil their whole learning capabilities. Young children possess a need for activity, play, adventure etc. and therefore learn much better through a play way approach. This intern arouses their interest in learning and helps sustain their involvement in learning new skills and knowledge through their work. For effective learning to take place, we should be able to relate it to all that we learn. This will enable us to achieve our goals. ââ¬Å"Goals play a significant role in learning since they give strength and direction to itâ⬠(Department of Education and Early Childhood Development) because goals help to direct our attention to the task at hand. Psychologist Murphy and Alexander (2000) have wri tten about a variety of goal orientations which help us to understand learners learning and performance especially at a young age. ââ¬Å"The important orientations are the learning goals, performance goals and work avoidanceâ⬠(British Journal of Educational Psychology). In my future practice as a teacher, in order to gain childrenââ¬â¢s interest in learning my aim will be to encourage children to be curious and eager to learn. From my work placement in a school setting, children are more successful when they learn to ask questions, think independently and also being very creative. Children need to be curious about the world, interested in how things work, and also know how to creatively approach problems. Child B asked a questionâ⬠¦Ã¢â¬ Do Flyââ¬â¢s sleep?â⬠I resisted answering the question straightaway and asked Child B ââ¬Å"What do you think? Where do you think we could find the answer?â⬠. In responding in this way, I was encouraging Child B to think for themself, this also helps children build their self-esteem. Creativity is a very important tool in every individualââ¬â¢s l earning, ââ¬Å"creativity is essentially a form of problem-solving. But it is a special type of problem-solvingââ¬âone that involves problems for which there are no easy answers: that is, problems for which popular or conventional responses do not work. Creativity involves adaptability and flexibility of thought. These are the same types of skills that numerous reports on educationâ⬠(e.g., the Carnegie Report, 1986) have suggested are critical for students (Creativity in Young Children). During my work placement in a school setting, creativity was essential for progressive learning. In order for creativity to take place the school created an environment that allowed the children to explore and play without undue restraints. Also, a key to the successful progression of every childââ¬â¢s learning was that we adapted toà every childs ideas, rather than trying to structure the childââ¬â¢s ideas to fit the adults. Learners need to have the opportunity and confidence to take risks, challenge assumptions, and also see things in a new way. I believe in educating the whole child as education comes from a wide range of experiences. All powerful learning occurs through engagement with others, the process and also the product of this learning is very important. Children learn mainly by modelling, actions speak louder than words. ââ¬Å"The majority of learning is tied to developments and takes time to see resultsâ⬠(Emphatic parenting). In order to teach children, we need to supportively help them understand first. A vital part of all learning is that of reflecting over what the individual has learnt. Every individual matters in the learning process because every individual has equal rights to dignity and also respect. As seen, I have learnt about a vast amount of learning techniques that will enable children to reach their full potential, as well as realising how this will be applied throughout my life as a continual learner. I have also, through-out my educational life and previous experience in my placement, discovered the ways in which I learn. This will now enable me to take this knowledge and skill base and apply this to progress successfully in my future practice as a teacher. Bibliography * P. K. Murphy and P. A. Alexander.
